Do you remember that time you had that great idea? You the one that was going to take you to the top. But you were at work or out on the town and said you would think back on it when you get home. But you don't think about that idea again until the next day, and for the life of you, you just cant remember what it was.

Or all those bits of info and great nuggets you wrote down on the back of napkins and sticky notes, only to soon lose them!

Remix to the V8 vegetable juice commercial:

"Should have had a Journal!

Keeping A Journal

A gentleman should never try and keep all his thoughts in his head. You may be thinking, "I'm not about to be writing down things in a journal with a lock on it like a little girl!"

Well not that kind of journal gentlemen. Although you could, this is to get all those thought and things that need to get done out of your head and on to paper.

You don't have to write those small details, but new ideas or things you want to try later are great to express in a journal. I found that keeping a journal helps organize and focus my thoughts. You can even use it to keep track of what you follow through on. Sometimes after you jot it on paper, you might not think that masterful idea is so great anymore.

Even sleep! There's a somewhat peaceful feeling knowing that all those valuable ( or even off the wall ) ideas and notes are resting on paper instead of running a 21k marathon in your mind. Just readily available if you need to go back and take a glance.

Lastly, writing those ideas that end up getting you to the success and areas in life that you aspire to be can be a wonderful treasure to leave behind to your loved ones. The things your son can look on and spark something that could cause him to get the keys to success in half the time. Why wouldn't you want that? But even if he's just able to see how dad knew how to handle his money, what to say to a lady, or the best times to catch a flight i'm sure would be appreciated. Sounds like small things right now but that great sermon or seminar you went to 30 years ago might not be readily available online, but could be right there in your personal library.

Let me know below if you think keeping a journal is a key to a successful gentleman's' life.
